Picked up a used 35mm f/1.8 for my mirrorless and spent the afternoon shooting street. Surprised how different the rendering feels compared to my zoom—more contrast and smoother falloff. How do you all decide between carrying fast primes or sticking with a flexible zoom when traveling?

Primes are my “walk and think less” lenses. A 35mm makes me move my feet and commit. Zooms win when I’m lazy or the scene changes fast.

I usually decide based on scene pace and light. For slow street walks I take a 35/1.8 for the contrast and falloff; crowded or changing distance, the zoom wins.
